Theatricals FAQ's

Welcome to your source for information of special interest to our Theatricals Customers. You may choose from any of the articles to the right:

In 1972 a special lady, with the help of some special friends, gave a very special gift to a little girl she loved. The lady wanted the gift to be more than just a toy. She wanted to send a message - a message she wished she had received when she was young. The lady in question was Marlo Thomas and her friends (including our own Mary Rodgers and Sheldon Harnick) were among the most talented and generous entertainment folks around. The little girl was Ms. Thomas' niece. And the gift was a record called FREE TO BE...YOU AND ME. Once she had completed the gift Marlo Thomas knew that other kids would respond to its message as well. How right she was!

The record sold 500,000 copies and inspired a companion book which became a best seller. In 1974 ABC broadcast an Emmy Award winning TV version of FREE TO BE...YOU AND ME which was released on home video. Responding to the many requests to perform FREE TO BE...on stage, seven years ago an adaptation of this beloved work was developed. It has been our pleasure and honor to make it available to so many of you.

What is the message that has endured for 25 years? What does FREE TO BE...YOU AND ME have to say? Quite simply it says to all kids, "You're okay!" That sounds so simple - but sometimes the simplest things go unsaid. In wonderful songs and comic sketches, kids discovered "It's All Right To Cry" and that "Parents Are People Too." In "Atalanta" the beautiful Princess doesn't want to be the prize for the knight who wins the contest. She wants to win the contest and choose her own mate. "Atalanta's" message: Don't settle for what's expected of you - it's okay to be who you are!

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of FREE TO BE...YOU AND ME a special edition of the book and CD has been released. And to say "Happy Anniversary," The Rodgers & Hammerstein Theatre Library is giving a present to all of you with a special money-saving offer. If you book this wonderful musical before the end of 1998 for performance dates at any time we will provide you our Standard Package of rehearsal materials absolutely free. Elementary schools, call us for special royalty rates!

Kids love FREE TO BE...! It's the ideal musical for community theatres, elementary and middle schools, high schools who present at elementary schools and professional children's theatres. Budgets at these theatres are often limited but that's no reason to keep new generations of kids from learning about themselves through this wondrous musical.

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of FREE TO BE. . . YOU AND ME and save money while you teach new generations to celebrate the endless possibilities which await them. Call, fax or e-mail The R&H Theatre Library today for details on this exciting free offer.
