Now our STATE FAIR can be your STATE FAIR. The R&H Theatre Library is happy to announce to all its customers the release on September 1, 1998 of the new Rodgers & Hammerstein stage musical STATE FAIR. And the best news of all? There are absolutely no restrictions!
Requests for STATE FAIR have been pouring in. Tremendous interest was sparked by the Tony nominated Broadway production and the pre- and post-Broadway tours which garnered headlines like:
"Perfection...Just pin that blue ribbon on the theatre marquee."
-CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
"A toe-tappable, knee-slappable package that carries a wealth of charm."
-HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
"This may be what the golden age of Broadway was really about."
-USA TODAY
Your local theatre critics may have trouble meeting their deadlines trying to come up with new and wonderful things to say about the first new Rodgers & Hammerstein stage musical to become available in 35 years.
The R&H Theatre Library licensed STATE FAIR to a handful of professional theatres earlier this year. At Chanhassen Dinner Theatres in Chanhassen, Minnesota it recently finished a phenomenal 12-month run. Producer/Director Michael Brindisi told us, "Our production of STATE FAIR was a huge audience pleaser, and it was the most well-attended show in our 30-year history. It has all the elements that make musical theatre truly engaging - but most of all, it's got heart." James Oseland in his feature article, "Dinner Theatre, U.S.A." for American Theatre Magazine had this to say about STATE FAIR: "Deliciously charged Americana... One of the most magical theatrical experiences I have had in years!"
It's a sure fire musical that doesn't require a huge budget to wow its audience. Last November the New England Theatre Conference, held in Worcester, Massachusetts, launched its first annual Publishers Showcase. The showcase was conceived as an opportunity for Publishers to promote their newest plays and musicals. Fifteen minute cuttings were submitted by each Publisher and assigned to high schools attending the Conference for live presentation before the assembled attendees. For this event a special 15 minute version of STATE FAIR was presented by students from Fairhaven High School in New Bedford, Massachusetts. On a postage stamp-sized stage Director, Kathleen A. Goes; Choreographer, John M. Costa and the Fairhaven cast captivated the audience and received a thunderous ovation. Director Goes writes, "Presenting the R&H specially prepared version of STATE FAIR at the New England Theatre Conference proved to be such great fun for my students and me that many have said it was one of the highlights of their high school Drama Club experience. We are all looking forward to mounting the full production in the very near future!"
As an added bonus, included in your standard package of rental materials is full color and black and white camera-ready artwork of the Broadway STATE FAIR blue ribbon logo. This logo is provided for use on all programs, posters and promotional items. You may also use the logo on certain pieces of merchandise but please contact us for a special merchandising license before doing so.
"There's a STATE FAIR in everyone where a lit-up roller coaster promises the ride of your life," wrote the St. Paul Pioneer Press. We know STATE FAIR will take its place in your hearts and the hearts of your audiences.
